OBAMA vs WE THE PEOPLE
Matt Miller of Bellefontaine, Ohio--thank you for taking the "bait"! Recently, I told one of my coffee buddies that you can bet there are still some die-in-the wool " ill-liberal liberals" out there even in rural Logan County, and your trashing my conservative views in your January 13th forum letter in the BELLEFONTAINE EXAMINER certainly proves that point. It's "kinda" like fishing. All one needs to catch one of you is to cast a few of the very terms you folks use 24/7 and wham! You charge to the surface, take the bait, dive deep, furiously "regurgitating" more of the same get-out-the-fiddles rhetoric they just accused you of using. I figured at least one of you would grab the bait so I could reel you in. Since the EXAMINER refused to print the following rebuttal, I am using this forum "to reel you in."
As for the TEA PARTY, I don't believe it was on the ballot at the recent election, but the socialist, communist workers, green, and others were. The leading big government party, the democrats or progressives, as some of them liked to be called, had ballot status big time. On the conservative side of the spectrum, it was just the republican. I did not see conservative party, tea party, party of Abraham Lincoln, or right wing nut party either. We conservatives had only one ballot spot against all those who would "fundamentally change" America to a European style country.
What the liberal, excuse me, the progressive writer missed about the recent election, was the historic elements of the people's victory. We have not seen such a turn over demanded by WE THE PEOPLE since 1938. You might not find that in future history books, since they started taking out that "stuff" long ago. That 33 new members of the current congress have never held public office probably won't be in the history books either, but that citizen type of representative, not the "experienced" career politician, is what our unique founders envisioned for our Republic.
It was not the political parties , lobbyists, or labor unions that brought out droves of voters not seen in a recent mid-term election, but, instead, the burning, citizen/voter anger at the antics of both sides of the political spectrum, and not only at the federal level, but also the state and county level.. What, Michigan a red state? Never, but it not only happened there but over most of our still free nation. What most on the progressive side either forget or are unaware of is that all political power in our Republic comes from the people---like you and I! As the American Creed so eloquently states: The US of A is "a government of, by, and for the people with just powers derived from the consent of the governed, a sovereign Republic of many sovereign states..." ( The creed is not in school cirriculum anymore.) Thus, we correctly state that we wish to "take back our country." It's what was intended by our founders so that we never have to suffer under an tyrannical governing force again. This truism is most likely not in our kid's history books either. Removing, revising, or sanitizing bits of history is an oppressive act, for it keeps folks unaware of both their rights and how these rights were secured. Nowadays, when an individual or group attempts to educate the public of their rights, they are shouted down or called vile names and demeaned. "It's astroturf" But that's okay because WE THE PEOPLE have found our footing and are not turning back! If those who were sent to do the PEOPLES work don't, "us folks" will send them and the other rascals packing, just like last November. There is always another election coming, and WE THE PEOPLE will be ready.
WE THE PEOPLE was written in in large letters as the first three words of the Preamble to UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION on purpose. It was not we the president or we the congress or we the ruling class. Just WE THE PEOPLE. I believe in this country and trust her future in the hands of the folks and that includes my detractor as well. There is no greater force on earth than a person untethered to do what God has blessed him with talent to do. So let's all do a little fishing and catch those whoppers and expose them to the unique history of the US of A -- a history they, seemingly, have not been exposed to.
